   used Jupiter as a gravity sling to speed up the ship on the trip to Saturn's moon. no use of Jupiter to speed the ship up..too complicated and boring for a movie.
   the destination was Saturn the destination was Jupiter due to technical difficulties with Saturns rings on film
   The monolith communicates/experiments with the primitive apes to make them more suitable to use tools/weapons and ensure their survival. The kill a leopard that was theatening their group and obtain meat to prevent starvation. The Apes coming into contact with the monolith seem to gain knowledge of tools/weapons from it. They use stick weapons to defeat another group of apes for control of a water hole.
   When HAL fails to correctly diagnose the AE-35 unit the crew is directed to disconnect HAL to determine the problem. Hal breaks off communications with Earth when these instructions are being broadcast. When HAL fails to correctly diagnose the AE-35 unit The crew has a conversation in an EVA pod and discusses whether or not to disconnect HAL; HAL reads their lips and knows their plans.
   HAL kills Poole by using the EVA pod to tear his spacesuit while outside of the ship. HAL kills the crew in suspended animation by venting the ship to space. Bowman survives by escaping to an airlock and donning a spacesuit. HAL kills Poole by using the EVA pod to cut his spacesuit air line while outside of the ship. When Bowman uses an EVA pod to retrieve Poole's body, HAL kills the crew members in suspended animation by shutting off their life support and prevents Bowman from reentering Discovery. Bowman enters by briefly exposing himself to the vacuum of space while entering the airlock.
