   Max dreams of becoming a boxer and fighting Hitler. He doesn't have this dream.
   Rudy finds out about Max after he has left the basement. Rudy sees Max's name written on one of Liesel's books and discovers the secret of Max while he is still in the basement.
   The Hubermann's have two adult children. They do not.
   Hans Jr. tells his father that Liesel should be reading Mein Kamph and he should join the Nazis. He isn't in the film but others tell Hans he should join the party.
   The Mayor and his wife, Ilsa don't use Rosa's laundry anymore because they are trying to show they want to save money. The Mayor wants to protect Ilsa from getting too close to Liesel so she isn't hurt in case anything happens.
   Liesel gets angry and throws a book at Ilsa when she is told she won't be delivering the laundry anymore. She doesn't get angry at her.
   After Hans is seen giving some bread to a Jew, they are both whipped by a Nazi officer. There is no violence, but Hans must tell the officer his name and he is wracked with worry about what will happen because of his actions.
   Hans is conscripted to the army and leaves first. Rudy's father is conscripted after they turn down the request for Rudy to join the elite forces but leaves a few days later. Rudy's father goes first, no reason given and Rudy is told that he will be joining the elite force when he is older.
   Death, the narrator, describes the souls he collects from Mauthausen Concentration Camp. This is omitted from the book.
   While Liesel is getting the book, The Grave Diggers Handbook, She is Dragged away. In the movie, she walks silently away, no crying happens.
   The story book 'the whistler' gets thrown in the water The hand painted 'mein Kampf' gets thrown in the river
   Liesel nearly gets caught while climbing out of the mayors window - Rudy is waiting for her Liesel hides behind a curtain, Rudy isn't involved
   Hans Hubermann teaches Liesel how to roll cigaretts, and he smokes them a lot There are no cigaretts
   The diary in which Liesel writes her story was given to her by the Mayor's wife The diary in which Liesel writes her story was given to her by Max
   Max re-paints the pages of the book, Mein kampf and hand paints/writes two books. The Standover Man and The Word Shaker which he gifts to Liesel. Max re-paints the pages of the book, Mein kampf and gives it to Liesel for her to write in it.
   After the bombing, Rudy is already dead when Liesel finds him and kisses him. Rudy is still alive and says "I l-" before dying.
