   The story takes place in the United Kingdom. It is in the United States.
   Rachel takes the train into London. She goes to Manhattan.
   Rachel discovers Tom's emotional abuse when she is sober and visit's Megan's psychiatrist. She is told about Tom's behavior by his former Boss's wife, Martha.
   Rachel doesn't give a speech. But the reader is given the feeling that she might have done it because of the way she acts. Rachel gives a speech to another drunk about how she feels about Megan's affair and it is inter cut with scenes of a blond woman being pulled by the hair. It insinuates that Rachel is a suspect in Megan's disappearance.
   Rachel never records anything on her phone. She records the speech that might implicate her in Megan's disappearance on her phone.
   Scott and Rachel have sex. They don't have sex. They just have some beers together.
   Multiple narrators makes it difficult to figure out what is going on. The narrative is more straight forward without differing points of view.
   Rachel drinks gin and tonic from a can. She drinks Vodka from a water bottle.
   Rachel's roommate, Cathy, let's her get away with her behavior until it gets very bad. Cathy is much more assertive and tells Rachel to get her act together.
   When Scott discovers Rachel's lies he drags her into a room and locks her in. He seems like he wants to do something, but doesn't.
   Scott reads Megan's emails and discovers her affair. He doesn't find out that way and suspects her when she returns from being with another man.
   Megan's baby becomes part of the story with headlines in the paper. We hear the story but nothing becomes of it.
   After taking a long time to talk to the red headed man, he tells her about Tom's affair. He tells her nothing.
   Tom and Rachel interact a lot throughout the story. He is sympathetic to her but also shown to be a bad guy. They run into each other a few times but he isn't central.
   Tom tells lies about his being in the military and about his relationship with his parents. This is never mentioned.
   This doesn't happen. Rachel throws deviled eggs at people at Tom's work.
   Tom's former boss's wife's name is Clara. It is Martha.
   Tom got fired from his job because of Rachel's behavior. He got fired because he slept with his co-workers.
   Megan got the feeling that she was being watched by Rachel when she got into the car with Tom. Megan told Tom about seeing Rachel in the tunnel.
   Tom's fence is very tall and you'd need to scale it to get into their house. It is a short fence that makes the house easily accessible.
