Roy finds out Iris is pregnant during the last game. Iris has a son, who Roy finds out is his.
Roy makes his comeback at 35 years old. Robert Redford was 48 when the movie came out. He played both the 19 year old and 35 year old Roy.
Roy strikes out in the final at bat in order to throw the game. He refuses to throw the game and hits the game winning homerun into the stadium lights.

Yes, I just read the book and it seems he was more than willing to win the game in the end, but the young pitcher (like he was once) just blew it by him.

Roy did not strike out in order to throw the game. He really did want to win the game, but he struck out anyway.
