This Spoils the Ending
In the Book In the Movie
Zombies appear to be incapable of running. The fastest have been observed to move at a rate of barely one step per 1.5 seconds. They run very, very fast with amazing agility.
The format of book involved a U.N. employee interviewing survivors of the zompocalypse about the zombie apocolypse and their experiences. Explores why the world wasn't prepared to deal with the zombie hoards. The movie is basically your race-against-time action/thrillerwhere the U.N employee is the reluctant hero who must overcome insurmountable odds to save the world (and just maybe… the woman he loves).
Max Brooks works for the UN and travels around the world to chronicle the history of the 10 year old war with the zombies. The events have already happened. Gerry Lane is a former UN investigator who experiences the beginnig of the zombie appocalypse in the present.
The first person infected by the zombie plague is in China. They are not sure where "Patient Zero" came from, but it is either South Korea or India.
The American government is slow to react because of overconfidence. They ignored outbreaks in other countries because they didn't believe they would be harmed. The American's are the good guys and they are the ones who save the day.
The Zombie war has been going on for ten years. The events of the zombie outbreak are only covered for a few weeks.
Many areas are not affected by the Zombie outbreak. Much of the UK is not infected. The entire world, save Israel is overrun by zombies.
The North Korean population disapears into tunnels under the country to avoid the zombies. The population has their teeth removed so that no one can be bitten.
Governments all over the world use convicted criminals as a distraction for the zombies so the rest of the population can attempt to flee. The criminals are dropped into the infected zones. This doesn't happen.
The Army wages a huge battle in Yonkers New York where they try and fail to stop the zombies. There is no battle of Yonkers.
The military uses a tool called the "Lobo" to smash the brains of the zombies to save ammunition. There is no "Lobo".
Zombies walked the ocean floors not in the movie
People take hours to weeks to die from an infection and reanimate as a zombie. Zombie eyes become cloudy as a result of prolonged damage and lack of tears. Persons turn into zombies in a matter of seconds after bitten; their eyes become immediately cloudy.
Other than people being bit by zombies, none of the events of the movie happen in the book. Other than people being bit by zombies, none of the events of the book happen in the movie.
This doesn't happen. A vaccine is developed to help hide people from the zombies.
